John Hartman, Midland, Ontario

John Hartman has established a reputation across Canada and abroad for his large scale landscape paintings.His early work was animated by both the mythical and the mundane stories of the painted locales.Most recently Hartman has been painting aerial views of cities, presenting them as living organisms entwined with the natural terrain of their geographic sites.

Hartman’s studio is in Lafontaine at the south end of Georgian Bay and each summer he makes small landscape paintings in the islands surrounding his camp, south of Britt, on the eastern shore of the Bay.
