Essence of Austria – July 19
Join us for a special fundraising event full of Austrian charm, Monday, July 19 at the Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts. Our host is Jerry Horner, wine connoisseur and retired violist of the Fine Arts String Quartet. Adding to the ambience of the evening will be a menu with traditional Viennese flavours. Jerry Horner will introduce Austrian wines that he has chosen to complement every course. No evening in Vienna, the city where music is in the air, would be complete without wonderful music. Moshe Hammer, Guy Few, Mark DuBois, James Campbell, Suzanne Shulman and the New Zealand String Quartet will choose from the works of Léhar, Strauss, Kreisler and Mozart and will delight you with their performances. |

Jazz Canada Weekend –
July 31 - August 2
The weekend begins with the second in our Family Fare series of free concerts for listeners of all ages. The Graham Campbell Quartet explores popular TV and film themes in the jazz style. The Gene DiNovi Trio takes you back to his favourite street, Broadway, with a side trip to Scandinavia. Two big bands make the Jazz Canada Weekend even more exciting. Hear jazz standards and original tunes on Saturday evening with the Dave Young Big Band and music of the Swing Era on Sunday evening with the Toronto All-Star Big Band. On Monday, Latin fever takes over the Island Queen with music that is vibrant, exotic and full of energy. Pianist Gordon Sheard and Rio natives, vocalist Luando Jones and percussionist Joelson David “Maninho” Costa, are joined by Dave Young and Terry Clarke in an exciting new quintet that brings a jazz approach to classic Brazilian songs. |
